Popular Story Night moves to new home

Galway Story Night, the group which provides an opportunity for people from all walks of life to tell a story or to enjoy hearing other people’s tales, is moving location.

The group, which held its gatherings in Spirit Centre, Nun’s Island will now meet at the Blue Teapot Theatre Company’s venue on Munster Avenue, starting from March 2. This larger venue reflects the popularity of the sessions.

Story Night was conceived by local storyteller, Clare Muireann Murphy and its home-spun appeal has seen numbers grow over the last four years. With a young and vibrant mix of participants it has found remarkable support in the community, with a strong mix of returning members and new audience every month.

Because of this growing interest, a new space had to be found to accommodate Story Night.

“Blue Teapot’s newly renovated theatre space is ideal”, says Clare. “It has twice the amount of space and we have received a very warm welcome from the Teapots.”

Blue Teapot Theatre Company is a unique company, made up of people with learning disability. The company provides place where actors with a learning disability can produce quality, professional theatre shows. Blue Teapot is excited to be able to offer its space to Story Night, which is a really inclusive enterprise, according to the company’s director, Petal Pilley.

“We chose to be in the heart of Galway to be a part of the artistic landscape,” says Petal. “And what could be better than stories and tea…pot?” she adds.

A ceremony to mark Story Night’s change of venue took place outside Blue Teapot recently with Story Night committee member, Jonathan Gunning (of the Gombeens) and members of Blue Teapot Theatre Company.

Story Night, which takes place on the first Tuesday of every month, will begin in its new location on March 2.
