Popular Mundy to play Pillar House Folk Club
Singer-songwriter Mundy will make a welcome return to The Pillar House Folk Club in Ballinasloe this Friday, December 11. He recently played at the Pillar House over a year ago when the show sold out.
The Offaly born singer is one of a number of artists who successfully made the transition from street busking in Dublin to gaining an international reputation during the 1990s, part of a prestigious list that includes the Frames, the Hothouse Flowers, Paddy Casey and Rodrigo y Gabriela. He will also be familiar to Galway audiences for his membership of the Sharon Shannon Big Band in the early 2000s.
Mundy’s mainly acoustic, folk-based pop/rock has been compared to that of Damien Rice and Josh Ritter. However, his style is more upbeat and celebratory than either of those two, as his recording of Steve Earle’s Galway Girl shows. It was the best-selling single and most downloaded song for two years in a row in Ireland, in 2007 and 2008. His other radio hits July and Mexico will feature this Friday night together with tracks from his new self-titled album which was released in Spring of this year.
Tickets for Mundy’s show are €20 and early booking is recommended as Ballinasloe Pillar House, which has earned a reputation as a great venue, seats just 80 people.
