Political will can make light rail a reality

A Galway Light Rail System could become a reality if politicians gave strong leadership on the issue, a senior academic figure in NUIG said this week.

Professor Padraic O’Donoghue, Dean of Engineering at NUI Galway, said that the GLUAS system — or alternatively a very high quality bus corridor network — could greatly enhance the quality of life formany people in the city.

Prof. O’Donoghue, who chaired a workshop on sustainable transport forGalway, said that politicians needed to put this issue on their top priority list.
