As a reward for their impressive 5-3 away win over Knocknacarra in the third round of the Connacht Junior Cup on Sunday last, Oughterard have received a plum draw with a home contest against Hibernians in the last 32.

Martin Coady produced a masterful performance as he notched four for his side who led by 3-1 at the break. Alex O’Toole completed the tally for the visitors, while one must spare a though for Peter Ferguson who notched a hat trick for Knocknacarra, but still finished on the losing side.

Meanwhile Hibernians were impressive 3-1 winners away to Castlebar Celtic as Keith Ward (two) and Brian Griffin hit the target.

In Caherlistrane, St Patrick’s started well as they led by two at the break, before losing their way and allowing their Sligo visitors Aughanagh Celtic back into the game at 2-2. However, a good closing spell saw the home side close the game out with two more late strikes as they ran out 4-2 winners.

Brothers Ja and Padraig McDonagh notched their opening half brace, while Rory Glynn restored their advantage at 3-2 from the penalty spot after Padraig McDonagh was fouled in the box. Shane Bohan then set up McDonagh for his second of the day and, in the process, set up a home tie against Manor Rangers in the fourth round.

Holders Athenry had matters all their own way as they ran our decisive 6-0 winners over Mayo side Conn Rangers. The visitors opened their account courtesy of an own goal and in turn Stephen Rabbitte, Seamie Crowe (pen), Gary Forde and Cathal Fahy (two) all found the net with comfort. Gabriel Glavin’s charges must travel again in the next round as they meet the winners of Calry Bohs and St Johns.

Barna Furbo were 4-3 home winners over Partry Athletic as Enda Keane (two), Ray Conneely and DD Flaherty all hit the net. They will travel to meet Boyle Celtic in round four.

Mervue United defeated Dromore Villa by 4-0 in Fahy’s Field as Finn Creedon, Keith McHugh, Tommy Walsh and Stephen Cunningham were all on the mark for the home side.

Goals by Dave Meehan and Shane Browne helped Salthill Devon defeat Colga by 2-1 in Drom and now meet Roscommon side Moore United.
