Ploughing to attract 250,000 visitors
CLOSE on 250,000 people are expected to throng the Carlow village of Ballintrane near Fenagh for next week’s National Ploughing Championship that run from Tuesday through to Thursday.
This year’s event has a serious international appeal with exhibitors, global buyers and visitors coming from across the world including the USA, UK, Turkey, Uganda, India, Poland, Ghana, Belgium, New Zealand, Saudi Arabia, Latvia and many EU countries.
One of the annual highlights of the event is the millions of euro worth of agricultural and plant machinery that will be on show, a lot of it to be seen ‘in action’ at the machinery demonstration area.
The cream of the country’s livestock will be on display at the championships as well as a barrage of information and demonstrations on animal management, genetics, nutrition and healthcare.
National Ploughing Association (NPA), Managing Director, Anna May McHugh, said that The Ploughing not only provided a showcase for all things agricultural but it also brought together all sections of Irish society both urban and rural.
She also said that this year’s event had a very strong ‘green theme’ with zero% of waste from the championships going to landfill.
“Watch out for the clear signage in our catering areas and have a chat with the ‘Green Bin angels’ who will be on-hand to give you advice and help you dispose of your waste in the right place,” said Anna May McHugh.
