‘Plenty of money around’ as auction homes exceed AMVs

Last Friday’s O’Donnellan & Joyce online auction – which was viewed live by more than 7,000 people – was described as “highly successful”, after more than 20 properties sold under the hammer.

Having more than 200 pre-registered bidders signalled to the team that there is still a great deal of money available in the marketplace and demand is strong for homes in Galway City, county and across the country.

Among the properties sold were:

4 Newcastle Court, Galway. A superb three-bedroom first floor apartment located just off Newcastle Road adjacent to University Hospital Galway. This property was described as a “fantastic investment opportunity with huge rental potential” due to its location beside UHG and NUIG and also being within walking distance of the city centre. The auctioneer accepted 22 bids from a total of 12 bidders. The lot commenced at the Advised Minimum Value of €225,000 and it quickly rose in increments of €5,000 before selling at €325,000.

10-12 Sea Road, Galway. This commercial property located on commenced at the reserve price of €150,000 and attracted great attention, with many enquiries from people looking to pre-register to bid. After an intense bidding with over 24 bids from multiple interested parties, the sale concluded at €340,000. The AMV was €250,000.

50 Cookes Terrace, Bohermore, Galway. Located within walking distance to the city centre, this three-bed terraced house had many enquiries and bidders pre-registering to purchase. The house comes with a rear patio and off-street parking which are ‘must haves’ for any prospective buyers. Bidding on this lot commenced at the AMV of €220,000 and quickly concluded at a sale price of €260,000.
