Plea for Garda Reserve in rural areas

A radical suggestion has been made to deploy the Garda Reserve members to rural parts of County Galway where break-ins to houses have become a major problem.

In recent weeks there have been a spate of burglaries from unoccupied houses in various parts of North Galway and other parts of the county as well. It has now been suggested the members of the Garda Reserve be utilised to patrol rural parts of County Galway in an effort to stop the current scourge.

Over the past couple of months alone, tens of thousands of euro have been stolen from houses at a time when the occupants are out working or have temporarily left the property.
