Playboy comes back to Galway
Imagine if the Playboy of the Western World was reworked as a radio drama with music – performed by an all-star cast and full band and set in the late fifties.
That’s what you get with the Playboy of the Western World – The Musical, brilliantly re-imaged by two leading lights of the Galway drama and music scene, and set for another run at the Town Hall Theatre next week, from Tuesday to Thursday, October 10 to 12.
This raucous and rollicking production raised the roof of the Town Hall Theatre and had the audience dancing in the aisles, when it was first performed there last November – so the return of the Playboy will be music to the ears of anyone who may have missed it last time round.
Adapted by actor Diarmuid de Faoite and TV director and musician Justin McCarthy and set in a radio studio in 1959 during a live broadcast, this reworking of Synge’s classic play boasts a full band, a foley artist and vintage-style sound effects – including half doors, jugs of water and a manual wind-up wind machine.
Tickets €20 / €18 are available now from www.tht.ie
