Plaque unveiling in memory of North Galway war dead

Galway bay fm newsroom -A plaque in memory of the people of Tuam and surrounding areas who fought and died in war will be unveiled this afternoon.

Conal Murphy, the brother of the late Aongus Murphy from Tuam who died in 1986 in the Lebanon while on duty with the united nations, will unveil the plaque at Tuam Town hall at 3 this afternoon.

The public are invited to the unveiling and it will be attended by representatives of the Irish army, reserve forces, Gardaí, fire services, town council and members of the clergy.

The plaque has been commissioned by the Tuam town council, and was first mooted over three years ago by former Councillor Owen Ward.
