PLANS TO BE LODGED FOR CONTROVERSIAL SHANTALLA CAR PARK
Date Published: 20-Dec-2007
A planning application is to be lodged by tomorrow for a new car park at University Hospital Galway on the site of the proposed Shantalla Neighbourhood Park.
Hospital management have indicated the application must be in before Christmas in order to avail of Government funds that have to be spent before the end of 2008.
The development has been controversial among Shantalla residents who wish to protect the residential area from hospital traffic.
Local Councillor Colette Connolly believes this car-park will not solve the crisis in UHG as surface parking doesn’t provide enough spaces, and people will still park illegally in Newcastle and Shantalla.
Councillor Connolly says hospital staff are taking up much of the current space and refuse to use a free shuttle bus to and from Merlin Park hospital
Councillor Connolly is disgusted with the lack of consultation between the HSE and The Shantalla Residents Association regarding plans for their neighbourhood park
