PLANS FOR TYNAGH WASTE AND ENERGY PUT ON BACK BURNER
Date Published: 13-Jun-2008
Plans for a ‘waste to energy’ facility and a ‘construction and demolition waste landfill’ on the site of the Tynagh mines have been put on hold.
Working on behalf of a client, engineering company HGL O’ Connor has WITHDRAWN a request for a pre-application consultation with An Bord Pleanala asking the Bord to decide if the development is classed as ‘Strategic Infrastructure’.
If the Bord had decided the facility was ‘Strategic Infrastructure’ the proposal would have been fastracked through the planning process, going straight to ‘An Bord Pleanala’ for a decision.
Speaking to Galway Bay FM news, a representative of HGL O’Connor said its client had stalled on plans to progress the development.
The spokesperson could not confirm if the client would re- attempt to build the facility at some stage in the future.
Now that plans for the landfill have been withdrawn, Local Councillor Willie Burke has repeated a call for the site to be upgraded as he believes it’s toxic.
