Plans to build 23 houses in Kilcolgan have been halted

Galway county council granted Gerry and John Meehan permission tho build the houses at Dunkellin but this decision has been overturned by An Bord Pleanala.

The decision to grant permission was appealed by ‘Kilcolgan Concerned Residents’ as they claimed the development would result in an unacceptable increase in the volume of traffic accessing the N18 Galway -Limerick Road.

Following an Inspectors report, the bord has decided to refuse permission for the houses saying it would constitute a piecemeal and disorderly form of suburban housing development.

The inspector said the development would be premature pending the preparation of a local area plan.

The bord also maintain the proposal would create an unacceptable risk of pollutuion of groundwater.

It concludes by stating the development would be prejudical to public health and contrary to proper planning and sustainable development
