Plans for 1,000ft fountain

A proposal to build a dazzling water fountain in the middle of Galway Bay, soaring to three times the height of the Spire on Dublin’s O’Connell Street has been submitted to Government bodies for initial funding approval.

Galway dentist Dr. Paul Moore and Offaly-based marine engineer MarkClarke have decided to push ahead with their concept for a 1,000ft (305m) landmark structure as part of the planned €2bn docklands redevelopment.

Enlisting the expertise of the company behind the world’s largest fountain built in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia two decades ago, they have submitted a vision statement for the project to the Minister for Arts, Sport and Tourism Seamus Brennan, the City and County Enterprise Board as well as various tourism agencies.
