PLANNING GO AHEAD FOR NEW ALZHEIMER UNIT IN MERLIN PARK

Planning permission has been granted for a new residential and day care unit for people suffering from Alzheimers is to be built in Merlin Park.
City planners have given the go-ahead to the West of Ireland Alzheimer Foundation to demolish a fire-gutted house in the grounds of Merlin Park Hospital and build a 22 bed unit for Alzheimer sufferers in it’s place.
The development will comprise of service rooms, car parking and landscaping.
The unit will be used mostly to give respite care to Alzheimers patients but there will also be a small number of long stay patients admitted.
