PLAN FOR ONE VOLVO FOOTBRIDGE IN CITY ABANDONED

Volvo organisers have scrapped plans a pedestrian bridges linking Nimmos Pier to Long Walk.

It follows a submission from boat-users in the Claddagh.

The Mariners Community Boat Club raised concerns that the proposed bridge would prevent boat traffic in and out of the entire Claddagh area.

The team has now decided to erect one bridge for the duration of the race festival linking the Spanish Arch to the Claddagh Basin.

Work will start this week on the construction of the temporary structure.
