Plan for glow-in-the-dark mini golf and adventure centre
Plans have been drawn up to transform a warehouse building in Oranmore for glow-in-the-dark mini golf, virtual reality adventure centre and an indoor astroturf pitch.
The proposal for a former furniture retail building on Oranmore Business Park will be targeted at birthday parties, school tours, hens and stags.
Ronan and Ciarán Ryan of Orrantree Leisure Ltd in Limerick have applied to Galway County Council for permission for the amalgamation of the upper floor of Units 1, 2 and 3 and the ground floor of 2 and 3 and a change from retail warehousing to leisure use.
The company already has similar operations – Jurassic Parrr mini golf in Limerick and Rollerjam indoor skating in Cork and Limerick.
“It is envisaged that the ground floor will offer a virtual reality leisure use offering, whilst the first floor will offer UV/glow in the dark golf as well as a small indoor astroturf kickabout area. It is intended that it will operate as a single commercial leisure use centre.
“The proposed facility will primarily cater for birthday parties, school tours, hens and stags.
The proposed hours of operation are from 10am to 9pm Mondays to Saturdays and 11am to 6pm on Sundays.
“With the exception of school holidays, daytime opening hours may be reduced at certain times of the year. Experience at my clients’ similar outlets elsewhere indicates that peak times for the proposed leisure use are at evenings and weekends.
“Owing to the anticipated peak periods as well as the nature of the proposed development in the heart of the Business Park, the proposed use will not adversely affect the amenities of the area and will represent a “neighbour friendly” us at this location,” the application reads.
It also points out that the units – which are owned by developer John Curley – have been lying empty for five years.
A decision on the application is due in the middle of October.
