PIETA HOUSE SELECTS TUAM BASE AS WESTERN CENTRE OF EXCELLENCE

Suicide prevention centre Pieta House is to open its first Western base at a former residential premises on Bishop Street in Tuam.

The facility will serve as a Centre of Excellence for Galway, Mayo and Roscommon.

It’ll comprise of 5 treatment rooms and reception area, employing up to 20 therapists who will run a 5 day service from 8 to 8.

A team of local volunteer tradespeople are awaiting approval for its change of use from Galway County Council before transforming the house.

The campaign to open the centre in Tuam has been ongoing for the past 18 months and it’s expected to be in operation by the end of the year.

Managing director of JFC and local campaigner John Concannon says the centre will give people in Galway and the West a long awaited support network.
