Pieta House in Tuam to be officially opened this evening
Galway Bay fm newsroom – The West’s first suicide and self-harm crisis centre will be officially opened in Tuam this evening.
Pieta House Tuam began operating on Bishop Street in December after a two and a half year community fundraising campaign.
It provides a free one-to-one therapuetic service to those experiencing suidical thoughts or engaging in self-harm.
12 staff are employed at the facility including nine therapists.
The opening takes place at 6.30 this evening with an address by Joan Freeman, the CEO of Pieta House, who founded the firse centre in Dublin in 2006.
John Concannon of JFC Manufacturing who led the project says the centre is down to the efforts of fundraisers across Galway, Mayo and Roscommon.
