Pieta House is expected to open a facility in the Tuam area by the end of the year.

Committee members involved in local efforts to open the suicide centre recently met with HSE to discuss possible locations such as the HSE Toghermore campus, and the old Grove site in Tuam.

Houses in the Tuam region are also still being considered.

The final decision on the location for the new centre, which will assist people in Galway, Mayo and Roscommon, will be made in the coming weeks.

Pieta House, a centre for prevention and self harm aims to reduce suicide by helping people get through the critical phase when suicide becomes a plan rather than an idea.

Managing director of JFC, John Concannon is a major driving force behind local efforts to open the facility and says Pieta House expect to have a house up and running in Tuam by the end of the year.
