Sitkovetsky Piano Trio: from back, violinist Alexander Sitkovetsky, pianist Wu Qian and cellist Isang Ender.

The Sitkovetsky Trio will be in concert in Galway next Thursday, March 10, performing Beethoven’s  Piano Trio Op. 1 No. 2, Sam Perkin’s Freak Show and Ravel’s Trio.

The concert in the Emily Anderson Hall at NUIG starts at 8pm and is being presented by Music for Galway.

The Sitkovetsky Trio was formed in 2007 by students at England’s Yehudi Menuhin School and two of its original members, Russian Alexander Sitkovetsky on violin and Chinese-born Wu Qian on piano, remain.

They were joined in 2019 by German-Korean cellist Isang Enders.

Their Galway programme will open and close with two large works which regularly feature in the piano trio repertoire; Beethoven’s melodious Piano Trio Op. 1 no. 2, and Ravel’s Trio, which has a very different musical sensibility.

In between is a work by Sam Perkin that was commissioned in Wales.

Sam is a former composer-in-residence with Music for Galway and he has gone one to develop a reputation for his insightful and delicate compositions.

The Sitkovetsky Trio have performed in concert halls and at festivals all over the world and have been praised by critics for their live concerts as well as their recordings of, among others, Beethoven, Mendelssohn, Ravel and  Saint-Saëns

Tickets for their Galway concert are €20/€18. The cost for fulltime students of all ages is €6, while  MfG Friends pay €16. To book or find out about how to join as a MfG Friend, visit musicforgalway.ie or phone 091 705962 and leave a message.
