Connemara & Aran, a visual chronicle of landscapes and seascapes by German photographer, Walter Pfeiffer, which includes work by specially selected poets, will be launched next Sunday, as part of this year’s Clifden Arts Festival.

Walter died unexpectedly in April, but family, friends and admirers will attend the launch this beautiful book, a fitting legacy to a wonderful photographer.

Walter first visited Aran in 1964, when he was only 20, and it changed his life. The landscape, the light and the people captivated him so much that he moved to Ireland the following year, living here until his premature death.

He became one of Ireland’s leading fashion and food photographers, working for major designers. His clients included Bord Bia and Dunnes for whom he created the imagery for their Simply Better range.

Food photography brought him into contact with leading chefs, often resulting in books, such as New Irish Cooking with Conrad Gallagher as well as Irish Oyster Cuisine and Celebrating Irish Salmon with Máirín Uí Chomáin. He also provided the illustrations for Sybil Connolly and Helen Dillon’s In an Irish Garden.
