A concert in aid of the charity COPE will take place in the City’s Róisín Dubh on Monday, December 29, with all proceeds going to helping people affected by homelessness, women and children experiencing domestic violence, and older people in the Galway area.

The line-up features the always sublime and surprising My Fellow Sponges, as well as Julie Hawk, and David Owens, some of whom are home for the Christmas season. Also on the bill are talented songwriters Pa Reidy and Katie O’Connor.

The musicians taking part will also have braved the cold for the COPE Christmas Day Swim, and are busking around the city to raise money and awareness for the cause.

It’s been another great year for the Sponges, as mentioned in this week’s end of year review. They recently released the video for Floating, which was shot on Lough Corrib. It’s the second video the band have made with Mia Mullarkey (sister of lead singer Anna), after the stunning clip for This Dream Song.

There will also be a raffle at the show and COPE will be taking donations at the event.

This promises to be a wonderful night of music, and a great chance to support the local community this Christmas.

Doors 8pm, admission €5.
