Performers flock to Feakle

THE annual Feakle Traditional Music Festival is currently in full swing and will run until Monday next, August 8 in the village just over the Sliabh Aughty mountain range.
A recital this Friday night will include the annual highlight – a concert from local fiddle player Martin Hayes and his long-time musical collaborator, guitarist Dennis Cahill.
The recital in St Mary’s Church, will be opened by the talented Mulcahy family from County Limerick.
They will be followed by the much anticipated act, Lumiere, featuring Kerry singers Pauline Scanlon and Éilis Kennedy and guitarist Donogh Hennessy.
Tickets cost €25 and should be bought in advance.
Saturday night’s concert is a more informal event and will feature a variety of musical acts, including Galway based singer and accordion player Mary Staunton and her band.
Charlie Harris, Brendan Begley and family, Vincent Griffin and Mary Corry, Mark Donnellan and Jim Corry (Tulla Céilí Band) and Seán Garvey are among those participating.
That’s in the Community Centre and tickets are €25.
Earlier that day, at 2pm there will be a poetry reading by Knute Skinner in Moloney’s pub and at 3.30 pm, there will be a singing session in the same place.
