Park & Ride a huge hit with motorists

THE park-and-ride service from the Racecourse to the city centre has been hailed as the key factor in keeping traffic moving during one of Galway’s busiest ever weekends.
With crowds estimated to be in the region of 150,000 having flocked into the city on Friday and Saturday, the park-and-ride service kept thousands of cars out of the city centre location.
Supt. Tom Curley told The Sentinel that while there had been concerns in the planning stage over possible traffic clog-ups because of the crowds, the park-and-ride service had proven to be a ‘fantastic success’.
“On Saturday alone, over 6,000 people used the park-and-ride service which helped greatly to keep the main traffic arteries into the city from the eastern side relatively clear,” said Supt. Curley.
With crowds visiting the city exceeding all expectations, senior Gardai are said to be ‘very happy’ at how the traffic arrangements have worked out with motorists very keen on…
