Paint campaign to highlight scourge of dog poo in Galway
From this week’s Galway City Tribune – Galway City Council is to crack down on dog fouling in a new campaign from this weekend – citizen volunteers will begin marking it with brightly-coloured spray paint and warden patrols will be stepped up.
There will also be stencil spraying on footpaths at 70 locations around the city with the message ‘Clean It Up You Dirty Pup!”.
Dog fouling along the Prom and along nearby roads and paths continues to be a problem, a city councillor said last week.
Cllr Donal Lyons (Ind) said that despite all the campaigns and appeals about dog owners cleaning up after their pets, it still remained a serious problem.
“I want to know if any fines have issued in relation to dog fouling in this area. We need to take action to try and resolve this issue,” said Cllr Lyons.
City Council Director of Services, Dermot Mahon, said that the dog fouling problem was one of a number of litter associated issues before the Council and he said that a report would be circulated to councillors on the matter.
