A full day’s action – starting at 8.30am – is lined up for the Connacht Spring Show that takes place on this Sunday, May 20, in the new community field in Corofin, just behind Raftery’s and beside the GAA pitch.

The first sheep will be shorn at 8.30, setting in train a hectic day of activity that will include an international sheep shearing competition involving Ireland, Northern Ireland and Wales.

Well known Country and Irish singer, P. J. Murrihy, will take to the stage at 2pm and play through the afternoon to entertain the crowds.

Another big attraction should be the recreation of an old Irish country village, while the Dog Show and Fowl Show will also be big attractions through the day.

The country challenge section of the show will feature such ‘tests’ as turf footing, wellie throwing and potato picking.

For the more health conscious people attending the event, there will be a blood pressure monitoring unit in place, while the Marie Keating Foundation Mobile Cancer Unit will also be there to give advice.

Also present will be the Road Safety Authority’s Simulator and Shuttle Truck. There are many more attractions through the day for young and old.

To round off the night, there will be a monster auction in Raftery’s, with a wide range of items coming under the hammer.

The Spring Show Committee will also be making a donation to the local playground fund.
