The owner of Shannon Dry Cleaners has told of her devastation at the fire which destroyed the premises in Bohermore this week.

Georgina Kenny – whose family as run the business for 60 years – has also praised the bravery of the Fire Service and Gardaí in dealing with the blaze.

She said the company’s insurers are dealing with the matter and customer claims will be dealt with “over the coming weeks”.

In a statement released today, Mrs Kenny said:”We firstly wish to acknowledge the bravery and tremendous work done by the Galway Fire services and An Garda Siochána late on Tuesday night and subsequently, to contain the terrible fire which destroyed our premises in Bohermore and brought such devastation to our family and business.

“Through the professionalism and diligence of the Fire Service and An Garda Siochána, there was no personal injury and no long-term damage to the properties of our neighbours. For this we are deeply grateful.

“In 60 years of business we have never had to deal with such a devastating incident and our thoughts are with our employees and their families, customers and neighbours in Bohermore. We wish to thank all those from the local community who have expressed their support.

“Your messages of support have served to remind us what a unique community spirit there is in this wonderful city.

“We are at present engaged with our insurers in a process which will take some time. We wish to assure our customers that we are doing everything we can to limit the inconvenience that this damage has visited upon all of us. All enquires will be addressed over the coming weeks.”

She went on to say that it is ‘business as usual’ at the company’s other premises and the family hopes to get Shannon Dry Cleaners back on its feet as soon as possible.

“We wish to assure our customers, general and commercial, that it is business as usual for Shannon Dry Cleaners at all of our other Galway locations, including Eyre Square Centre, Salthill and Athenry, as well as our collection and delivery service. All work is being undertaken to our usual highest standard at our midlands facility.

“Currently our same day service is available at all of our branches. Finally, we are grateful to all of our loyal customers for their continued support and understanding in these difficult times. We wish to state that Shannon Dry Cleaners and the Kenny family are determined to continue serving the communities, businesses and sports clubs of Galway to the highest possible standard.

“We will not stand still, we have a duty to our employees and our customers to get back on our feet and return to normality as soon as possible. It is our wish and our intention to return to our business at Prospect Hill in the near future.”
