Over €2m secured for energy upgrades in Galway
Galway Bay fm newsroom – 63 homes in the county are among a list of projects to benefit from Government funding under the Better Energy Scheme.
More than 2 million euro has been approved for specific projects in Galway, with more funding available through nationwide projects.
The scheme provides funds through the Sustainable Energy Authority Ireland towards insulation, heating and lighting upgrades.
More than 550 thousand euro has been approved for Comharchumann Fuinnimh Oileáin Árann Teo to carry out fabric and heating system upgrades to a number of homes and businesses on the Aran Islands.
A further 475 thousand euro has been sanctioned for energy upgrades to 40 homes on Inis Mór and 439 thousand euro for energy upgrades to 40 more homes on Lettermore Island.
More than 340 thousand euro has been approved for Galway Diocese to upgrade Galway Cathedral, St. Mary’s College and the Pastoral Centre.
280 thousand euro will go to the County Council for projects across the county involving water services, public lighting, community facilities and a cancer support centre.
142 thousand euro will be spent on energy upgrades for 23 homes in the county with another 136 thousand euro going to Energy Wise Construction Limited.
The company will carry out energy upgrades to 12 homes on Inis Meáin.
GAA clubs in the county may also benefit from funding to save energy such as insulation upgrades and energy-efficient flood lighting.
