Over €1.5 million in energy grants for Galway projects

The Sustainable Energy Authority of Ireland (SEAI) has announced that Galway community energy projects will receive €1,673,334 million in financial support resulting in substantial improvements in homes, community buildings, retailers and charity facilities throughout the county.

Galway projects that will receive financial support include a project being led by O’Tooles Supervalu Tuam to upgrade local businesses, schools and community buildings such as Tuam Parish Centre and the Wheelchair Association.

Also, First Class Insulation working with NCE to upgrade 44 homes and community buildings in Lettermore. John Randles, Head of Delivery at SEAI said:

“This year we have awarded grants worth a total of €18.6 million to 29 community energy efficiency initiatives across the country. Energy retrofitting is really important for Ireland in reducing expensive imports of fossil fuels and providing much needed local employment so it is great to see communities coming together to tackle sustainable energy in a positive way.

“Nationally, these projects will improve the energy efficiency of 2,435 homes and 400 public, private and community buildings, deliver lifetime energy savings of €140 million in the localities concerned, while also benefitting the environment.”
