At least 500 protestors from Connemara have taken to the streets in the city, voicing their opposition to the controversial septic tank charges.

The protest began at one o’clock outside county buildings and is coinciding with the December County Council meeting.

Under the new rules being proposed by the Government, owners of homes with septic tanks will have to pay a charge when registering their tank with the authorities.

A large beige toilet was mounted on a trolley with a picture behind depicted a man outside a cottage wondering what to do with his toilet, as his wife is using an ancient outside toilet instead of the one inside.
