Galway Bay fm newsroom – Over 50 submissions have been made to An Bord Pleanala so far regarding the plan to extend Galway port.

There are now just two days left for the public to make their views known to the higher planning authority.

Galway harbour company is seeking planning permission for the extension at Renmore and townparks townlands.

It will involve the relocation of the majority of the existing harbour related activities from the dock area to the new deep water berths, quays, jetties and yards at the harbour extension.

The 50 plus submissions made to An Bord Pleanala to date have been made by members of the public, local businesses, and tourism related sectors.

It’s understood that most of these have been in favour of the project, with a small number opposing parts of the plan.

The last day to lodge observations is tomorrow, Tuesday the 11th of March, and many more submissions are expected to be made between now and then.

An inspector will consider all submissions before presenting a report to the board in due course, and an oral hearing is likely to take place in the city before the final decision is made.
