Over 28000 on UHG outpatient waiting list

Galway Bay fm newsroom – There are over 28,100 people on the outpatient waiting list at University Hospital Galway.
The HSE’s Performance Assurance Report for May of this year shows that nationally, there are almost 350 thousand people waiting for outpatient treatment.
Last month, over 12 thousand people waiting for outpatient appointments at Galway’s public hospitals were contacted in a texting initiative.
The new text system has been rolled out to make it easier for outpatients to respond and confirm their position on the list.
Management at UHG and Merlin Park are working to meet national targets which mean no patient should wait longer than 12 months for appointment.
The figures released today show that outpatient waiting lists have grown for five consecutive months, after recording a sharp drop at the end of last year.
