Over 2000 homes without power as storm surges in Galway

Galway Bay fm newsroom – Over two thousand homes are without power as high winds surge across the county.

ESB crews are working to restore supply to 1800 homes in Loughrea, a further 180 households in Glenamaddy and a further 130 where outages are reported in Gort.

In the city, Dr. Coolahan Road in Salthill is closed due to high tides expected just before 6pm.

The road is expected to reopen at around 7pm depending on weather conditions.

Met Eireann expects the severe weather warning for Connacht to remain in place until at least midnight.

A RED storm warning has been issued which implies that people need to take action to protect themselves and their properties.

Winds of up to 90 kilometres per hour and gusts of up to 150 kilometres are expected across Galway, Mayo, Sligo, Leitrim and Donegal.
