Over 100 heroin addicts in Galway City on methadone treatment
From this week’s Galway City Tribune – The extent of the heroin problem in Galway is borne out in new figures which show that more than 100 addicts are receiving methadone treatment through city pharmacies.
The HSE has confirmed that a total of 108 patients in Galway City are participating in the Opioid Substitution Treatment Scheme.
This scheme is generally used to dispense methadone, a heroin replacement.
A total of 15 city pharmacies are participating in the scheme, the HSE said, in response to a written question from Councillor John Connolly.
