OUTGOING MAYOR GETS HONORARY POSITION WITH VOLVO GALWAY

The outgoing Mayor of Galway Hildegarde Naughton has been appointed honourary International Co-ordinator for the Galway Volvo Ocean Race Festival.

The event, which gets under way in just over two weeks time, is expected to attract more than 40,000 overseas visitors.

Since the world race began last September in Alicante in Spain Mayor Naughton has played a leading role in promoting Galway as a tourist destination and a location with huge business opportunities.

She will be handing over the Mayoral chain next Monday to Cllr Terry O’Flaherty, a week before 6 days before the Volvo festival begins.

Now the organising committee, Let’s do it Global, has asked the outgoing Mayor to act as its international liaison officer to welcome the VIPs, business executives and senior race officials.
