CITY TRIBUNE
Out on their own
IF any team out there is plotting Corofin’s downfall next season, they better make sure it happens before the brilliant All-Ireland Club football champions get to Croke Park.
In maintaining a perfect four from four finals record at GAA headquarters last Sunday, Corofin underlined how much the hallowed old venue suits their buccaneering attacking style when blitzing Dr Crokes in the All-Ireland final.
Having destroyed Nemo Rangers 12 months ago, Kevin O’Brien’s all-conquering crew also left the Kerry title holders chasing shadows with their pace, angles of running and sheer quality.
Once again, it was the ultimate team display and next year Corofin will have the opportunity of doing something no club football team has done before – winning three All-Ireland titles on the trot. Don’t bet against them.
Sadly, Galway’s hopes of a rare All-Ireland parish double at Croke Park last Sunday came unstuck when St Thomas’, who had no luck with injuries, were swept away by the most prolific winners of the hurling title, Ballyhale Shamrocks.
