Oughterard take the spoils thanks to Coady

THERE were shades of daylight robbery about this result as Oughterard soaked up the pressure all day and then struck for a late Martin Coady goal as the outcome helped them move into a more comfortable mid-table position in the Western Hygiene Supplies Second Division.

It was the second time this season that just a single goal separated the sides, for on the opening day of the campaign the outcome was the same and, for Knocknacarra, matters have not got much better since as they languish at the foot of the table with just one win to their credit.

In contrast to their poor start to the season, this was a third win in succession for Oughterard as they followed up victories over C B Trotters and West United B, but while these wins have helped them move away from the relegation area an underlying problem exists for both sides – an inability to hit the net with any sort of regularity. Between them the two sides have played 18 games, but have averaged just over a goal a game as only 20 strikes have been shared between them.
