OUGHTERARD MAN ESCAPES PRISON FOR THEFT OF COMPUTERS

An Oughterard truck driver has been ordered to perform 240 hours of community service in place of a three year prison term for his role in the theft of computers valued at over 54,000 euros from a courier company

39 year old Brendan Kelly, a married father of one, of Carrowmanagh, Oughterard, pleaded guilty to dishonestly appropriating 50 laptop computers from Securispeed in Clondalkin on August 9, 2006.

A second charge relating to nine personal computers valued 8,000 euros was taken into consideration at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court.

Kelly told gardai that he was paid 1,200 euros for his role and that he was in severe financial difficulties at the time.
