Oughterard domestic violence service considering cutbacks
Galway bay fm newsroom – A domestic violence support service based in Oughterard says it may have to close some of its services because of a budget deficit.
Hundreds of calls are going unanswered at Domestic Violence Response because the organisation does not have the resources to attend to an increasing workload.
The organisation offers support for women and children who are subjected to abuse in the home, and also works in the area of prevention and education.
There are ten part time employees, and the project receives core funding from the HSE and the commission for the support of victims of crime.
