Oughterard butcher delivers lamb to 69 Irish Embassies for Paddy’s Day
Date Published: 29-Feb-2012
A product synonymous with Connemara will be enjoyed in no less than 69 Irish embassies all over the world on St Patrick’s Day.
Connemara lamb is world renowned but air dried lamb is an award winning product that is only produced in Ireland by James McGeough in Oughterard.
James, who was in Germany this week retraining as he likes to keep up with his skills and latest curing methods, said he was thrilled that An Bord Bia, the Irish food board, had picked his air-dried lamb as one of the products to be showcased on a day when Ireland is celebrated all over the world.
James air-dries various meats at his small factory behind the family butcher’s shop but the lamb seems to have become extremely popular, especially among the Muslim population who don’t eat pork.
The McGeough’s air-dried lamb will be included in gourmet food hampers that will be delivered to embassies worldwide from Boston to Budapest.
Embassies in New York, Buenos Aires, Moscow, Abu Dhabi, San Francisco and many more will taste and enjoy the delicacy, which James assures is “one of the tastiest things you will ever eat.”
