Orchid Collective bring their roots sound to Monroe’s Live

The root/folk act Orchid Collective play Monroe’s Live on Thursday December 17.  The Dublin based band formed when Shea Tohill and singer David O’ Shea met BIMM music college in Dublin.

“Then we got our drummer Brian on board,” David O’Shea says.  “We played as a seven-piece for a while, which we soon figured wasn’t the best idea when it came to touring.

“Then one night over a few cans and a Tommy Tiernan DVD we came to the conclusion that we would change our sound to suit a four-piece, we soon found our bass player Hugh and haven’t looked back since!”

The band have recorded at home until now, but will raise their game for their next singles.

“We recorded Figure It Out off our own bat in our bassist’s house in Sligo. We were really happy with the results, but for our next two singles we will be working with a producer in a studio in the North, where I’m from,” says David. “The songs are called Lay as Stone and Waiting on the Sun and they’re due to be released in February.”

What has been the highlight of 2015 for the band?

“We had planned the release of Figure it Out for a long time and put a lot of time and energy into the recording process, so to actually get it out there and have so many people come out and support it was great,” says David.

Doors 11.30, admission €10.
