ORANMORE WOMAN WINS VOLUNTEER OF THE YEAR IN MAYORAL AWARDS

Margaret McNulty from Oranmore has been named Volunteer of the Year in the County Mayor’s awards.

The awards ceremony which was held last night [Nov 10] in the Connemara Coast Hotel was attended by 300 people from coummunity and voluntary groups.

35 community and voluntary groups were short listed in 7 other categories.

Tuam Headford Special Olympics took the Sports Award while Abbey Community Development won the Green Award.

The Arts award was won by Clifden Community Arts Week while Ballinasloe Area Community Development Ltd won the Community Enterprise Award.

The Youth Award was won by Sign out Youth Café in Portumna while The Age Friendly Award was won by Portumna & District Active Retirement Association.

Clann Family Resource Centre in Oughterard won the Community Group Award.

All the winners were presented with a beautiful slate sculpture of the Galway Hooker
