Oranmore’s new train station will open next Monday

Oranmore will become the country’s newest railway station from next Sunday when Iarnród Eireann opens the new facility for business with 23 daily stops.

Iarnród Eireann are offering a seven minute journey time from the coastal village to the heart of the city – the official opening will be performed by Transport Minister, Leo Varadkar on Monday next.

The station looks set for a busy first week – coinciding with the start of the Races – and racegoers can avail of a shuttle bus service between Ceannt Station and the racecourse.

Motorists using the new rail station can avail of a 300 space car-park operated by Galway County Council while a bicycle parking facility is also provided. The new station is located off the Coast Road.

The ‘into town’ Monday to Saturday service from Oranmore has three departures in the morning period from 8am to 9.16am while commuters leaving the city in the evening will have three services from 4.39pm to 6.53pm.

Irish Rail have advised customers to be aware of some schedule changes that will coincide with the opening of the new station on Sunday with the 11.30, 13.30 and 15.30 outward departures from Galway to Dublin being advanced to 11.05, 13.05 and 15.05 respectively.
