Oranmore Arts Festival plans to stream events

The Oranmore Arts Festival, which is scheduled to take place from next Thursday to Sunday, May 7-10, has adapted to the changing circumstances caused by the coronavirus. The festival, which was founded three ago with the aim of providing arts for all in the local community, is going online.

The organisers decided to stream some of the programme rather than cancelling the popular festival.

Events will include an Open Mic, sponsored by Brazco Coffee Company. Entrants of all ages will be invited to submit a recording of a song, with the prize being a hamper filled with items sourced from other local businesses.

A reading featuring Nuala O’Connor, Gerard O’Brien, Paul Mc Mahon, Michelle Coyne and Demi Anter, promises to be a highlight. These writers, who were due to read at a Literary Lunch in Oranmore Castle over the weekend, will instead be reading online from a selection of their recent works.

This will be loosely based on Galway 2020’s theme of Language, Landscape and Migration.

Children, meanwhile, can tune into a story from Suzanne Reilly of Babbling Bookclub. Instructions for a craft that features in the narrative, will be led by Lindsay Deely of Toodlelou Creativity Lab.
