OPPOSITION LEADERS PLEAD WITH ENDA KENNY TO APOLOGISE TO MAGDALENE WOMEN
Date Published: 06-Feb-2013
The Taoiseach’s been accused of being "cruel" after again declining to apologise to the Magdalene women.
Opposition leaders pleaded with Enda Kenny to give the survivors the full apology they deserve.
The sisters of Mercy ran the magdalen home at Forster street in the city which closed in 1984.
The congregation only had partial records for the home which could not be included in the report as they weren’t representative of all admissions to the laundry.
Only 132 entries were recorded on the surviving register – a soft book notebook.
Speaking today Mr Kenny insisted that he and the Government needed space to decide what to do to bring closure for the women.
