OPEN-AIR DRINKERS IN BALLINASLOE SEEK SHELTERED VENUE

People involved in open-air drinking sessions in Ballinasloe are looking for a venue where they can socialise like the shebeen in Limerick’s South Hill.

HSE Addiction Councillor Brendan Barrett told a meeting of the Joint Policing Committee there’s no hostel in Ballinasloe and those who drink on the streets need somewhere sheltered to congregate.

He also said there was a distinct link between drink and crime.
