Only a few responsible for Hymany anti-social issues

A very small group of persistent offenders are responsible for the anti-social behaviour and intimidation in a local authority housing estate which was highlighted in an article in last week’s Connacht Tribune, according to a town Councillor.

Responding to last week’s article which focused on three former residents of the estate who say they were forced to leave because of the intimidation, Cllr. Jason Devlin said that it angered him that residents of the Council estate had to leave their homes because a small group of individuals had been allowed do what they want, without any great fear of sanctions from the Town Council.

The Sinn Fein Councillor, who is a former resident of the estate, said many people from the area were appalled that this had happened, and he had received numerous phone calls from residents who felt they had all been painted in a poor light as a result of the article.

He said that he had never been slow to contact the Gardaí or the Council whenever representations were made to him in the past concerning intimidation, but was very often frustrated at the slowness of the official response.
