IT was powerful, it was pulsating, it was one of the greatest team displays ever witnessed in a Galway county final as Portumna pummelled a shell-shocked Kinvara side into submission at Pearse Stadium on Sunday.
There were 19 points between the sides in the end as the Shannonsiders picked up their third county title in five years, banishing the memories of their controversial defeat to Loughrea in last year’s decider.
The most one-sided final in 44 years saw the pre-match favourites race into a 2-4 to 0-1 lead by the 18th minute, a 3- 8 to 0-5 lead by half-time, and the game was ended as a contest when the excellent Niall Hayes blasted home their fourth goal six minutes into the second half.
