A quarter of the one-off houses built so far this year are concentrated in Galway, Cork and Donegal county council areas.

According to today’s Irish Times, 1 thousand 843 individual houses have been built so far this year nationwide.

150 of these are in the Galway County Council area.

However, statistics from the Department of the Environment show that the number of houses built last year hit its lowest level since records began in 1970.

Just 8 and a half thousand houses were built last year, compared to 93 thousand in 2006.
