ONE MILLION EURO FOR NUIG MARINE RESEARCH

A gift of 1 million euro has been donated to NUIGalway to marine, environmental and energy research.

According to today’s Irish Times, the donation has been made by the charitable trust set up by the founder of Ryanair, Tony Ryan.

Dr. Tony Ryan, who died in 2007, previously established the Martin Ryan marine research institute at NUIG.

The latest donation of 1 million euro will support research scholarships for 5 PhD students focusing on marine and environmental research.

It’ll also be used to provide financial support for students under NUIG’s access programme.
